Actress Haley Ramm, who can currently be seen in the movie "Flightplan" alongside Jodie Foster, recently took some time out of filming X3 to speak with us about her role. Haley plays the character of a young Jean Grey (portrayed by Famke Janssen) in the movie, and will be in the forefront of some very explosive scenes.
Although Haley was unable to comment very much on X3 (due to her contract, and the secrecy of the movie in general) she was able to answer a few of our questions!
TheXverse: How excited were you when you first found out you got the role? What was it like, auditioning for a part in such a big film?
Haley Ramm: I was very excited to book Young Jean Grey! Since it is all so top secret they did not give the actors who were auditioning any lines beforehand. So when I arrived I was given some lines and had a few minutes to look at them. When I got the callback it was all improv with the director, Brett Ratner.
TXV: Did you get to meet Famke Janssen on the set of the film? Can you say whether you worked with her at all?
HR: I can’t tell you who I worked with but I CAN tell you that Famke was on set and is extremely nice! She has an adorable dog that was with her!
TXV: Had you seen X-Men and X2 before you auditioned for the part?
HR: I had not seen them before I auditioned but have watched them since and absolutely love them. I am so proud to be a part of the third film. And I think the Jean Grey character is very interesting!
TXV: Are you a comic book fan, and had you ever read any of the X-books growing up? Have you read any since you landed the role of young Jean?
HR: I’m really not a big comic book fan (do Archie and Jughead count? I think I read those when I was younger!) I do love the movies, though!
TXV: When Jean first found her abilities in the comics, she was crying a lot and very temperamental. Without giving away too many details, was there a lot of emotion in the scenes you were in?
HR: Oooh! Too much information! But can you imagine if you suddenly discovered that you were different from your family and that people were frightened of you? It sure wouldn’t be much fun.
TXV: You've now been in a few major feature films! Were you at all star-struck when you first got to the set for X-Men 3?
HR: I couldn’t wait to get to the set. I wouldn’t say I was starstruck but it was a lot of fun sitting in the lunch tent with Sir Ian and tons of mutants!
TXV: Do you have any funny stories you could share about your experiences on set?
HR: Well, my wardrobe is from a different decade and I think I looked pretty weird.
TXV: What was it like to work with incredibly experienced actors, like Patrick Stewart, where there's a large age gap between yourself and your co-stars?
HR: I love talking with the actors that are older than me. They have some great stories-not just about their work. It’s hard to remember that they do normal people stuff, too.
TXV: How familiar were you with your older co-stars, before you met them? Did they give you any advice about the film industry?
HR: I had certainly heard of them. But since I’m only 13 I still have a lot of movies to see in my life. Everytime I meet someone new I like to go out and rent their old movies. When I worked with Jodie Foster I watched all of her old films. Same with Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo.
TXV: Flightplan has just started showing in theaters and you are currently filming for X3. Do you have any other projects coming up?
HR: I just finished Yours, Mine and Ours (with Dennis and Rene). It is an updated remake of the 1968 film. Since there were 18 kids on set we had a blast. It’s a fun, family movie and it will be out November 23. Flightplan was a great film to work on. Just to sit there and watch Jodie Foster work for all of those weeks was awesome. She is simply amazing. And I was so happy it stayed in the number one spot for awhile! I have some other things in the works. You can go to my website at www.haleyramm.com for news about what I am doing.
TXV: Do you have anything you would like to say to fans of the film?
HR: X-Men 3 is going to be great! The cast and crew are wonderful. And, of course, I hope you like my performance. I think Brett Ratner did a great job directing me!
We'd like to extend our thanks again to Haley for answering our questions!
